Internal Audit at Holland Casino: exciting, but definitely not a gamble!

Feb. 6, 2018
At first, as an outsider, you might think of Holland Casino only in terms of casino games, but Holland Casino offers much more than that. Holland Casino is also about hospitality, entertainment, a safe environment and social responsibility (such as the prevention of gambling addiction). This breadth is fully reflected in the varied subjects that the Internal Audit Department has on its audit calendar.

Audits are not only conducted at headquarters. Some 30-40% of the time is spent visiting casinos around the country. Visiting the vault and looking at the casino's figures are among the possibilities, but the auditors focus mainly on process control. The interesting thing here, by the way, is that Holland Casino's auditors sometimes use somewhat less common techniques (for internal auditors), namely: observation and use of camera images. "As an auditor, this is a good place to immerse yourself in content, because our processes are sometimes quite complicated. Experience shows that on average you need about two years to get to the bottom of the complexity," states Inge Laurent, Senior Internal Auditor.

Choosing to work in Internal Audit at Holland Casino is exciting, but certainly not a gamble. In fact, the Internal Audit department is an established position that is taken seriously within the organization. The IIA certification was recently obtained again. The organizational positioning is as it should be for an Internal Audit function and Internal Audit's findings are mostly considered relevant insights. Senior management also knows how to find Internal Audit regularly for additional knowledge or research questions. As an internal auditor, you must therefore enjoy responding to this in a client-oriented manner.

Holland Casino's internal auditors have a common premise that they want to go further in their audits than just identifying any problems. "The added value lies precisely in finding out the causes. And sometimes you end up with soft controls as an interesting cause," Michel Zwart (Audit Manager) points out in a conversation at the beautiful new headquarters in Hoofddorp, to which Holland Casino recently moved.

Holland Casino's Internal Audit Function may expand and is therefore looking for reinforcement. Please express your interest in a position at Holland Casino to Annemarie Blaisse of AuditPeople, at annemarie.blaisse@auditpeople.nl or 06-41532393.
