Our Audit Trainee in the word

January 1, 1970
Since September, through ARC People, I have been working as a trainee auditor at the Municipality of Rotterdam - Stadsontwikkeling.
As part of my graduate studies, I participated in an audit at an organization. In this audit, we tested whether the organization complied with the AVG (General Data Protection Regulation). During and after graduate school, my interest in the field of auditing only grew. The existence of different forms of auditing aroused my curiosity, which is why I want to study and develop further in the field.

Shortly after graduation, I was contacted by an ARC People recruiter asking if I was interested in a traineeship that ARC People offers to recent graduates. After the phone appointment, I was invited to talk to one of ARC People's partners, Sander van Oosten. I experienced the conversation with Sander as very pleasant.

Soon after the interview, I was invited for an interview with an audit manager of the Municipality of Rotterdam. That interview also went very well. I felt very comfortable during the interview with the audit manager and noticed that the audit manager was willing to guide me well during the traineeship. The process from the first interview until I was told that I could take the traineeship went smoothly.

Prior to starting at the Municipality of Rotterdam, I was offered an Internal Audit training course by ARC People. The training lasted 10 days in which several interesting and instructive topics such as the audit function and its context, the design and execution of an internal audit and the 'soft' controls were covered. The training was given by teachers who have a lot of experience in the field of auditing and risk management. In addition, AuditPeople organizes a monthly follow-up day. Important here is intervision where the trainees get the chance to share the knowledge and experience they have gained within the organization.

I have now been working at the Municipality of Rotterdam for almost three months, I am really enjoying myself and I am learning an awful lot. I was immediately involved in all aspects of an audit at the start. I mainly audit the physical projects of the City of Rotterdam at the cluster Stadsontwikkeling. What I like about auditing is that it involves so much more than what you initially expect.

I was able to make an impact in a very short time by encouraging employees during an audit to think about their own work and motivating them to improve their own work processes. It's nice to see that asking questions already gets people thinking. So conducting an audit already leads to improvement in many cases.

Because monthly intervision is organized by ARC People and I am well supervised by the audit manager, I get the space to develop myself well in both career and personal development.
